solidarity Christmas and social permanence in Mafate

The city of Saint-Paul implements a strong social policy based on outreach, in particular thanks to its CCAS (central fund for social activities). Every quarter since 2023, CCAS social workers go to Mafate to provide social assistance and help populations in need. We publish the press release below (Photo: Saint-Paul)

To end the year on a happy and supportive note, the CCAS (central fund for social activities) of Saint-Paul joined forces with the Insaniyat Foundation and the VEM (Muslim mutual aid volunteers) Saint-Paul association. to organize a solidarity Christmas on the islets of Marla, Roche-Plate and Orangers.

All the schoolchildren received a Christmas gift and, in total, 100 food parcels were distributed. These packages contained essential products, including non-perishable goods such as oil, rice, pasta, flour, canned goods, tea, coffee, sugar, jam, dairy products and legumes.

“We come to create a link with the Mafatais and respond to their needs, such as helping with administrative procedures, financial aid, or even the distribution of food packages,” says Adèle Cuvelier, social worker at the CCAS of Saint-Paul (remarks collected by Réunion La 1ère).

Social, disability and municipal assistance

Last October 2, in addition to the presence of social workers on the three islets, Emmanuel Séraphin, mayor of Saint-Paul held a municipal office on the islet of Orangers to discuss with the residents. Furthermore, Ms. Dorla, Disability and Social Action project manager, led a discussion group on disability issues.

In October, social workers from CCAS (central fund for social activities) enabled the distribution of 60 food packages to families in Mafate in partnership with the Unir OI association (Indian Ocean). Other food parcels were collected by families from the Red Cross.

A CCAS that is more attentive and closer to the population

In March and June 2024, five social workers held on-call hours and enabled the distribution of food packages in partnership with the Red Cross.

In conjunction with the town hall, digital advisors also participated in these moments to support residents on all digital-related issues.

Strong partnership action

The CCAS thanks the town hall teams and patrons who make it possible to amplify social services to support our citizens. In 2024, the Insaniyat Foundation, Hélilagon, Unir OI, the Red Cross and the VEM of Saint-Paul provided their support for the actions carried out by the CCAS in Mafate.
