SENEGAL-SANTE / The DER provides funding of nearly a billion for the opening of pharmacies – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Dec 23 (APS) – The Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship of Women and Youth (DER/FJ) provided, Monday, funding amounting to nearly one billion CFA francs to 98 young Senegalese graduates in pharmacy in the 14 regions of Senegal.

''With overall funding of one billion FCFA, the 14 regions were affected and even remote communes such as Bandafassi, Bokoudialobé, Kéréwane […]'', declared the General Delegate for rapid entrepreneurship of women and young people, Aïssatou Mbodj.

She was speaking at the launch ceremony of the pharmacy financing program for young pharmacists.

According to Ms. Mbodj, this program consists of ''facilitating access to credit for the creation of new pharmacies, thus allowing young pharmacists to establish themselves and actively contribute to the national health system''.

It will also “strengthen” the health sector by increasing the number of points of sale of quality medicines thus ensuring “better health coverage” for the populations.

This program also serves to “promote” territorial equity by encouraging the establishment of pharmacies in underserved areas, said Aïssatou Mbodj.

She encouraged the beneficiaries, including 36 women and 62 men, to “seize this opportunity to carry out their projects, participate in the improvement of our health system and contribute to the economic and social development of Senegal”.

The coordinator of the Dakar International Exhibition of Medicines, Medical Devices and Parapharmacies (SENPHARMA), Dr Samba Dramé, welcomed this funding, stressing that ''pharmacists have always suffered from lack of funding''.

For him, this funding makes it possible to create “on average 800 jobs”, to “bring back the smiles of many Senegalese people through access to quality medicines”. It will also make it possible to “fight against medical deserts, to have geographical accessibility of medicine”.

Dr Dramé urged young beneficiaries to “respect” their commitments to allow other pharmacists to “benefit” from DER funding.

The president of the Union of Young Pharmacists of Senegal (Ujps), Falla Mané, warmly thanked the DER for the “speed” in processing the files of beneficiaries, graduated since 2022.

He called on his comrades to be “without reproach” to allow the DER to continue to finance pharmacy projects.

As part of this program, “98 out of 112 requests” were financed for amounts ranging from “5 to 20 million FCFA”.
