600,000 tablets, 750,000 euros in loot… Vast drug trafficking dismantled

In Clermont-Ferrand, four people were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on December 19 after the seizure of 245,000 capsules of a treatment for epilepsy. It was hijacked by drug addicts. The value of the loot reaches 750.000 euros. The thugs obtained their supplies directly from a specialized wholesaler and two employees were involved in the scheme.

This pharmaceutical company realized that some of its customers were not receiving these orders for Pregabalin. Between May and August 2024, 600,000 of these painkiller, antiepileptic and antidepressant tablets are missing. With the help of two company employees, the traffickers stole entire pallets of this drug from warehouses in order to sell it in the streets like amazing.

“It alters judgment, it gives euphoric effects, very disinhibiting effects. Some call it 'poor man's drug', a stamp on the street is a few euros. Unreasonable consumption of this medication has an effect on a certain number of hyper-violent behaviors: attacks, violent thefts and others,” explains Colonel Ludovic Ehrhart, commander of the central office for combating environmental and to public health of the national gendarmerie.

Among the four individuals arrested by the gendarmes, 245,000 Prégabalin capsules, four firearms and grenades were found. Hundreds of thousands of euros in cash were also seized.
