The Familiprix de Saint-Joseph played spoilsport on Friday evening, posting a 6-4 victory over the Giovannina de Sainte-Marie, which marked its 10th anniversary by hosting its natural rivals at the Caztel Center.
In front of an excellent crowd of 1,042 spectators, the Familiprix scored the only goal of the opening period, this one from Alexandre Mathieu at 13:52. The Joselois took control of the match in the second, scoring three goals against just one for the locals. Charles-Étienne Hébert allowed the visitors to build a 3-0 lead with two goals in two minutes, the second on the power play. The Mariverains then got on the scoreboard through Nicolas Létourneau, also with a one-man advantage, at 12:25. Jean-Michaël Gilbert restored his team's three-goal advantage on the power play late in the second.
In the third, Giovannina turned the tide, breaking through Hubert Morin's wall with three goals in five minutes to tie the game, those of William Dumont on the power play in the 3rd minute of play, Charles Bêty in the 4th minute and Samuel Landry, with an extra man in the middle of the period. Keven Landry, assisted by Maxime Cliche, put an end to the bleeding by scoring the 5th Familiprix goal and Yannick Roy completing the score in an empty net one minute from the end of the period.
Throughout the week, those responsible for the Mariveraine team multiplied photos, historical facts and tributes on social networks. Several former players of the team were invited to the ice, before Friday evening's clash, for a brief presentation followed by a family photo with the current Giovannina team and an official puck drop.
