Near , this town has lost the most inhabitants in the Alpes-Maritimes

The latest figures from INSEE fell this Thursday, December 19, 2024. If the population is changing on the Riviera coast, a small town, near Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), has lost many inhabitants. It is the one who lost the most between 2016 and 2022according to the institute.

This is Roure, perched at an altitude of 1,100 meters at the entrance to the Tinée valley.


-9.35% of inhabitants in 6 years

If Nice still attracts with 2,690 additional residents, increasing from 351,011 to 353,701 inhabitants in one year, this is not the case for all municipalities. Indeed, certain municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes are in serious decline in population.

This is the case of Roureone hour from the Riviera capital, which stands out as the commune in the department which lost the most inhabitants between 2016 and 2022, according to the latest INSEE census.

As of January 1, 2022, the village has 111 inhabitants. A big drop, on average, in -9,35% in six years. In 2021, there were 113.

An increase then a decline

The commune has, however, experienced a gradual increase in its population: 71 in 1975, then 112 in 1982, 147 in 1990 to reach the 212 residents in 2010. Before experiencing a decline and falling to 111 in 2022. At the beginning of the century, it had 500.

Other villages are experiencing a decline in population. Like Amirat, around 80 km from Nice, which follows Roure and is the second municipality to have lost the most inhabitants in the department with a drop of -6.43% on average between 2016 and 2022.
