The officials and workers who had been working on the site for almost two years had met on the site for an inauguration with great fanfare.
This has been the work of the last two years in St-Pierre. The Vigie dam, whose total cost is around 15 million euros, is completed, two years after the dynamiting in October 2022 of the old structure which was showing signs of weakness.
This Thursday, December 19 in the morning, the inauguration of the work took place, in the presence of several personalities and workers.
Starting with the Territorial Authority which is responsible for the competence and management of the work, the site having been carried out and monitored by the SPL (Local Public Company) Archipel Aménagement. But also the City of Saint-Pierre, first concerned by the need to supplement its drinking water supply (after passing through a water treatment station), in addition to the second dam in the Saint-Pierre territory, that of Goëland.
The Vigie dam accounts for 45% of our water supply for the City of Saint-Pierre and the Goëland dam 55%.
Yannick Cambray, mayor of Saint-Pierre
And the work should ensure supplies for a few generations:
The work is expected to last around a hundred years. And local know-how was once again demonstrated.
Bernard Briand, president of the Territorial Council
Indeed, apart from the initial studies and certain specific monitoring, the majority of the work was carried out by companies and employees from the archipelago.
