“A few more difficult holidays”: D-300 before the arrival of line 1 at Sud de station

This Saturday, December 21, the mayor of and president of the Metropolis officially launched the days counter before the extension of tram line 1 to Montpellier Sud de station.

Arriving today by train at the Montpellier Sud de France TGV station is to discover a city under construction with its cranes, trenches, barriers and dams. But this disrupted and unwelcome landscape is for a good cause. Indeed, in 300 days, on October 18, 2025 exactly, the hassle of getting to and from Montpellier Sud de France station will be over, thanks to the extension of line 1 of the tramway to it. An operation which cost 50 million euros.

No need to take your car or the shuttle bus, tram line 1, the busiest in France, outside Île-de-France, will ensure service to this station during the next All Saints' Day holidays, thus allowing all its users to reach the city center of Montpellier in 20 minutes.

So still 300 days to wait. And to bear “some difficult holidays for users of this station, but, on All Saints' Day, everything will be sorted“, rejoices the mayor of Montpellier and president of the Metropolis, Michaël Delafosse, this Saturday, December 21, on the square in front of the TGV station, accompanied by a crowd of elected officials and public transport professionals, for the launch of the day counter which will count down the time remaining until the line is actually put into service.

2025: time for achievements

Between the Covid crisis and the energy crisis, there was no shortage of implementation difficulties, but “we stayed the course and kept moving forward. So, after time and waiting, now comes the time for achievements with this extension, but also line 5 and the bustram which will be added to the kilometers of cycle paths that we have built“, says Julie Frêche, vice-president of the Metropolis in charge of mobility.

Before giving a few scratches to the elected officials of the previous mandate for their “inaction” in relation to this tram line. The confectioners' truce should calm people's minds…
