A tense incident took place on Tuesday December 17, 2024 in , in the La Frayère district, in La Bocca. A man was arrested after insulting and threatening municipal police officers while smoking cannabis. Following this event, the mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, announced his intention to request the eviction of the individual's family from their social housing.

An eventful arrest

Around 10 p.m., during a patrol, municipal police officers crossed paths with three individuals. One of them, filming the scene with his phone, allegedly taunted the police by smoking cannabis, while insulting and threatening them.

The police decided to intervene and arrest the individual in question. During the arrest, the latter allegedly shouted to alert his relatives, prompting several people, including his father, to oppose the agents by threatening them. Despite this agitation, the man was subdued and handed over to a judicial police officer.

Sanction and reaction from the mayor

The man arrested was sentenced to complete a citizenship training course. A sentence deemed insufficient by David Lisnard, mayor of Cannes, who expressed his indignation on the social network X (formerly Twitter). The mayor also confirmed his intention to request the eviction of the individual and his family from their social housing, emphasizing his commitment to restoring “order, respect and common sense”.

A symbolic decision to strengthen security in Cannes

David Lisnard, a figure of the Republican right, has often put forward firm measures to maintain security in his town. This incident, which occurred in the sensitive district of La Frayère, illustrates according to him the need to make strong decisions in the face of what he considers to be unacceptable behavior in the context of social housing financed by taxpayers.
