Unsurprisingly, the opposition of the Perpignan municipal council consummated its divorce this Friday, December 20, 2024. The leader of the opposition Chantal Bruzi as well as Pierre Parrat officially announced their decision to leave their group. While Louis Aliot counts the points and perhaps waits to take new shots.
“Nauseating”, “pathetic”, “psychotic”, “gutter politics”… the last municipal council of Perpignan of the year began with joy. Or rather by a rowdy attack from the elected representatives of the majority against their opponent Bruno Nougayrède concerning his recent declarations on the expenses of elected officials. “The further we go into the mandate, the more you will end up alone Mr. Nougayrède because I fear that few people will follow you, except on the extreme left or in the caviar left. You are an avatar in this city”, shoots the mayor again, immediately announcing a session “iconic in more than one way”. Like a slightly jubilant tease before Chantal Bruzi and Pierre Parrat reveal their decision to leave the opposition group “Perpignan for you” in order to now sit on the independent bench.
“If I do not have to explain my reasons, I would like to regain freedom of expression without committing the group and in the interest of the city,” begins the one who was none other than the president of this opposition group, after having been municipal councilor under the mandate of Jean-Paul Alduy, then security assistant to Jean-Marc Pujol. “Being a systematic opposition doesn't suit me and sometimes I stopped myself from speaking because I didn't share the same position.” she adds aside. Covered almost word for word by Pierre Parrat, ex-delegate “safety and proximity” of the Alduy team, and first assistant to Pujol. With one small difference… If Chantal Bruzi is no longer included since she left the Republicans the day after the 2020 defeat, Pierre Parrat proudly brandishes his Ciottist label (and compatible RN) “I am a member of the UDR (union of rights) and I should constantly criticize everything. I intend to regain my total freedom.”
A first step towards the National Rally majority? “The mayor did not offer it to us. And I have no political calculations”replies Chantal Bruzi. When his sidekick dodges: “It’s too early to say what will happen tomorrow.”
“For several months,
we had numerous signs
of rapprochement”
However, the opposition group (which therefore falls to 11 members, the limit to maintain it being 10) already seems to have its idea on the question through the voice of Philippe Capsié. “It is the observation of a failure. A feeling of abandonment. The regret of seeing two personalities leave but also of learning it in this way, faced with a fait accompli. But it is also a relief with the possibility to regain momentum For several months, there have been numerous signs of rapprochement between these two elements and the municipal majority. This is an eminently political maneuver, taken on the eve of a first quarter of 2025 that some seem to fear (the court). of Paris must render its decision in the case where Louis Aliot is threatened with ineligibility Editor's note) and that others obviously hope.”
If it was not really emblematic, this municipal council will at least have been symptomatic of the race already underway for the electoral deadline of 2026. And it will have had the merit of finally clarifying the connections in the ranks of the opposition .
