The Jura Government wants to strengthen the ranks of justice with a view to welcoming Moutier. He sent a message to Parliament on Friday aimed at increasing the number of magistrates by 2.2 EPT compared to the current situation. The legislature will soon have to decide on a revision of the judicial organization law and the decree establishing the number of judges and prosecutors.
The Government emphasizes that the reception of Moutier will inevitably lead to an increase in cases to be handled by the Jura judicial authorities. In detail, it plans to increase the number of public prosecutors from 6 to 6.8 FTEs. The Court of First Instance should see its number of permanent judges increase from 5.5 to 6.3 FTEs and the Juvenile Court its position of president from 0.7 to 0.8 FTEs.
A request from the Cantonal Court satisfied
Concerning the Cantonal Court, the Government proposes to increase the number of permanent judges from 5 to 5.5 FTEs, an increase of 10%. Which corresponds to the request made by the body as part of its 2023 report. Contacted, the president of the Cantonal Court, Sylviane Liniger Odiet, says she is satisfied and hopes that Parliament will follow this proposal.
The cantonal executive also proposes to remove the minimum and maximum allocations for permanent judges and prosecutors which appear in the law. The objective is to simplify the system knowing that a decree of Parliament already sets the precise numbers of each judicial body.
The Jura Parliament will vote on this project by next summer. /comm-alr
