The Neuchâtel Council of State has estimated the credit it is requesting for the construction of a new building for the University of Neuchâtel at nearly 96.8 million francs. The project, named Univers, will be installed on the former Panespo site by the lake.
In Neuchâtel, the “university on a human scale” will expand in a few years. By 2029, a brand new building should rise from the ground on the edge of the lake, right next to the building of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences (FLSH) in the Tilo-Frey space.
The new building will make it possible to absorb the University’s growing numbers (+37.5% since 2001)
The result of an international competition won by the Berrel Kräutler architectural office, the Univers project provides for a learning center, a modular auditorium with 700 seats, classrooms and meeting rooms, as well as offices and a cafeteria, recalled Thursday the canton.
Inauguration in 2029
“The new building will make it possible to absorb the growing numbers of the University (+37.5% since 2001), to bring together several institutes currently scattered throughout the city and to absorb the growth expected in the coming decades”, can – we read in the press release. A request for financial support was made to the Confederation, for an amount estimated at 19.5 million francs.
The work should begin in 2026 and be “completed in spring 2029”. At the start of 2023, the University was still talking about an achievement planned for 2027.
