We tested it for you: break everything in the first “unwind” room in Côtes-d’Armor [Vidéo]

“Mallet, golf club, baseball bat or crowbar? » A difficult choice welcomes visitors to La Furie, near Saint-Brieuc, since Wednesday December 18, 2024. Tiphaine Tardivel, 27, created her “rage room” in a former garden center. Two “unblocking” pieces to break it all down. And the first room of its kind in Côtes-d’Armor. The 250 m² premises also accommodate an ax throwing area.

Tiphaine Tardivel, a former real estate agent, has been carrying out her “rage room” project since the beginning of 2023. She discovered the concept seven years ago, thanks to YouTube videos filmed in Japan and the United States. (Le Télégramme/Fanny Ohier)

While the year stretches on forever, the holidays are long overdue and my cat has once again attacked one end of the sofa, I decided to go and spend my nerves in Trégueux (22 ) to test the concept.

Behind the door, bottles, screen, tires and dishes wait to be smashed. Objects all from recycling. Electronic equipment, for example, comes from the Emmaüs trash cans. It is unsaleable and bought by the ton by Tiphaine. Enough to “recover waste more expensively than usual and support the association”. “I am an additional link in the recycling chain,” explains the young woman, who specifies that a recycling and revaluation company then comes to La Furie to collect the debris, some of which will help “create new energies”.

Shy start

Before entering the “unwind” room, put on a bib, visor, anti-cut gloves and overshoes. “It’s a place where you can get hurt, you have to be careful,” recalls the manager of the premises, who specifies that access is reserved for adults. We choose our weapon, too. Goes for the bat and the golf club. To get in the mood, Tiphaine also lets you choose the playlist. “It takes a little time to get started and the music is disinhibiting. We’re not used to it, warns the young woman. It’s not natural to say that you can destroy something, which is also not yours. »

First step: we equip ourselves. Breastplate, visor, protective gloves and overshoes are mandatory to enter the “rage room”. (Le Télégramme/Léa Gaumer)

Now it’s time for serious things. “Mel, sit down, I need to talk to you.” As soon as you step into the room, the sound starts. The first shots are, as expected, very timid. I can barely break the bottles. They just fly gently to the other end of the room. I abandon the bat, which is a little light, for the golf club. While Diam’s raises the tone in the speakers, the second weapon proves significantly more effective.

The majority clientele of these “unwind” rooms? Women. “We live in a society where we are asked to repress ourselves much more than men,” analyzes Tiphaine. (Le Télégramme/Fanny Ohier)

“Washed out but soothed”

I take my momentum, determined. Move a little away from my target to protect myself from shrapnel. And miss the shard placed there on the table. The glasses were left in the locker room and I’m as short-sighted as a mole. The first song has barely finished and I’m already sweating. It’s my only sports session of the year, cardio is lagging behind. Two options are available: 20 or 30 minutes. As you will have understood, I opted for the first option. “When they leave there, people no longer have any energy,” Tiphaine had warned. They are worn out but soothed.”

The promise was kept and the session did a lot of good. Nothing remains but the debris littering the ground. In the long term, one-off events suitable for young people can also be organized at La Furie. “I have requests from parents of teenagers and pre-teens. Between attention disorders, hyperactivity, etc. Being a child is not always easy,” points out the manager, who explains that she also wants to collaborate with local artists, such as graffiti artists and tattoo artists.
