FC Bassin d’Arcachon is at a standstill. Their match two weeks ago against Aviron Bayonnais was stopped at the break by decision of the refereeing trio: the state of the pitch at the Jean Brousse stadium had deteriorated far too much to continue the game in acceptable conditions. Last week, their match scheduled in Canet-en-Roussillon was postponed due to bad weather forecast in the Pyrénées-Orientales and closed fields in Canet.
But for Marvin Esor, the South Bassin technician: “It really doesn’t matter. Over fifty-two weeks of the year 2024, we will have played forty-nine times. We had targeted the month of November as a turning point. We had anticipated a drop in physical activity and paradoxically, we were relatively spared from any problems. On the other hand, we underestimated the mental load that this caused. Psychologically, this series of encounters was hard to digest and this was largely felt in our lack of control over our emotions. Mental fatigue meant that we were punished too much at the yellow or red level. This handicapped us, hence our slight drop in performance.”
However, the Maritimes want to end the calendar year on a good note, especially at home. “It’s a great game to end the year,” assures the coach. Against a coherent formation which claims to play the leading roles. Despite their last two zero results, she has size, capable of building intensity and taking advantage of space. She is formatted to win the championship. But we will do everything to cause them problems like what we did during the first half of the first match.”
