In Lille, they want to “revive a sleeping beauty” by opening Café Vedette

This is not the first, and perhaps not the last, entrepreneurial adventure of this trio. Alban Danjou, Victoria Vervaeke and Nicolas Cacheux took over the establishment of 50 rue de la Monnaie has Lille (North). They want to restore the nobility of this former essential wine bar in the neighborhood. Better: “bring it back to life”. Nicolas gave us the tour.

A favorite visit

If you’re a regular in the neighborhood, you already know the faces of those behind the counter at Café Vedette. Nicolas and his friend Alban Danjou, creators of La Clique, and Victoria, who joined them with the takeover of Aux Artistes, place du Concert, in 2023.

A few meters away, they opened a new establishment in October 2024, Café Vedette, formerly La Part des Anges. “It was an emblematic place, which was somewhat abandoned for a while,” Nicolas tells us. “It has since been taken over to become the Café de la Monnaie. » But other projects of his manager meant that he left. The trio fell in love with the place, which hides large spaces on several floors.

The return of the authentic bistro

Nicolas and his friends redid the decor. Mirror on the ceiling, disco balls, large wooden shelves covered with cleverly placed decorative elements… Everything has been redone to the taste of the team, who wanted to “return to the atmosphere of the authentic bistro”, presents Nicolas.

From Wednesday to Sunday it is bouillon on site. In the evening it is homemade tapas“with the Franchouillard spirit”, smiles Nicolas. The menu is short and changes regularly. “There is always an offer for meat lovers, vegetarians… We also value the short circuit,” says the manager, “just like Aux Artistes”.

Local stars

The name “Café Vedette” was chosen with care. “We immediately saw the potential of the place, with its spaces large and separate enough to allow people to privatize », Nicolas explains to us. Thus, everyone can become the star of your own party ».

Indeed, in the ground floor room, several large tables can be seated in different spaces (low or high tables). Upstairs, a more intimate setting awaits you with a view of the kitchen, or in spaces with sofas and coffee tables. You can also choose to stay at the bar, ideal forafterwork. Nicolas and Alban enjoy seeing people play with the mirror on the ceiling, especially for photos. “We didn’t think about that at all! We thought it made the room bigger. But people have fun with it, which is even better! »

A “surprise” cellar downstairs

The gem of the place is undoubtedly its cellar, large enough to accommodate a good number of people, standing or sitting, and even a scene! “On Thursday evening, we host a comedy club,with the Marrant collective,” presents Nicolas. “You have several artists presenting their sketches. We also offer concertsusually on Friday. The idea is to highlight thelocal stars ! »

It is also possible to reserve the room for events. “People come there with their friends, have a night out, can enjoy different music.” There is even a bar in the basement, which is open on request. Enough to enable the trio’s project to “revive a sleeping beauty”: Nicolas is referring to this affair which, thanks to them, has regained a youthful appearance.
