This Wednesday, December 18, the presentation of two donations of €7,000 each by the League Against Cancer and Leukemia Hope 22 will make it possible to renew the financing of this new hospital care activity that is hospital biography.
Hospital biography as supportive care has been offered by the oncology department of Saint-Brieuc hospital since October 2021.
Three years later, 45 books were given by Aude Bracq, hospital biographer, to the patients she supported. On average, Aude Bracq talks with people for five to six hours, over several meetings. “This intention to leave a trace is essential for patients. It becomes their project and they are very proud of it. It’s very rewarding for them,” explains the biographer.
An action that has become a common thread
For the president of Leukémie Espoir, which has accumulated, since 2021, €21,000 in donations via the Liamm endowment fund to this project, “when we committed to supporting this action three years ago, we didn’t really know where we were going but we liked the subject, unanimously. Today, it has become a common thread. Every year, we renew our support.”
An enthusiasm shared by the representatives of the League against Cancer: “For us, it’s a discovery. But which fully responds to our support for supportive care which brings well-being to patients, and therefore also to families.” The care team also measures the result by “the good it does for everyone: the patient, the family, the caregivers. Some patients do not have visitors. The time spent with Aude does them a lot of good,” notes Dr. Alphonse Marusu, head of the oncology department. When the book is finished, the professional gives them two copies free of charge, with families having the option of financing additional copies.
