Salamata Ousmane Diallo, journalist and manager of the Miss Literature Senegal competition, expressed his pride and commitment to this project. According to her, this initiative, launched in 2016 in Benin by Carmen Toudonou, aims to promote reading and writing among young girls aged 18 to 24.
“The objective is really to create the next generation of female literary artists, because women are still not very present on the Senegalese literary scene. We support these young girls who are passionate about literature in their journey, by organizing literary cafés, reading clubs and various events in schools, libraries and other spaces dedicated to books,” she explained.
The Miss Literature competition, which brings together 12 African countries, highlights the intelligence and creativity of young African girls. This 2024-2025 edition, whose official launch took place last January in Cotonou, brings together candidates from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea , Mali, Niger, Senegal, Chad and Togo.
Sokhna Aminata Fall now embodies the hope and ambition of an entire country, that of bringing back the African crown of Miss Literature to Senegal. A challenge which, beyond the simple title, celebrates the power of literature as a tool of emancipation and expression for young African girls.
This competition, which celebrates the beauty and intelligence of young girls passionate about literature, concluded in apotheosis. The evening was enlivened by a magnificent Serer musical performance, accompanied by traditional dance steps which enhanced this unique moment.
