L’estacade is an urban development project in Lorient, which is divided into five sequences. The first has been completed and the second should be completed by the end of 2024. These are respectively the Jules-Ferry park, up to the boundary of the arcades, and the rue Maître-Esvelin which overlooks the Saint-Louis high school. Work will continue from 2025, Place Jules-Ferry. The cost of the work on these first three parts amounts to €1.6 million excluding taxes. We will have to wait until the next term for the rest. These latest works concern the front of the sub-prefecture and the Palais des Congrès.

2 Parking: nothing changes
Concerning the arcades and Place Jules-Ferry, two-way traffic is maintained, although much space is given to greenery. A valley will also be created, allowing better rainwater collection. Parking spaces will be changed. The sloping parking lots will give way to longitudinal parking lots. However, their number should not decrease. The parking lot covering will change. Regarding traffic, the speed of motorists will be limited to 20 km/h, with the creation of a meeting zone. In terms of accessibility, the future markings of pedestrian crossings were designed with an association of the visually impaired.

3 Concern of local residents
The municipality assures us: “the project aims to promote traders”. Their terraces will notably be enlarged by one meter, following the widening of the sidewalks. This extension concerns Place Jules-Ferry, on the Saint-Louis high school side (right bank). These changes worry some local residents, present this Wednesday evening, December 18, 2024. “More space means more customers. We risk being less peaceful,” said one of them.
“We are already taking enforcement action. Bars have the right to work but must respect neighborhood rules. We will not hesitate to be more severe towards them if necessary,” retorts Alain Le Brusq, delegate for trade and local economic life.
