The work started just a few days ago in the small navy of the Cap Corse. Since November 12, the port of Santa Severaregularly damaged by the storms which hit the east coast of the island, is the subject of major renovation work.
“It is a site very exposed to bad weather, which needed to be brought into compliance with regulationsexplain Thierry Mazel, head of port and airport concessions for the Corsican Community. There is a challenge which consists of making the body of water safe, particularly in winter.”
“The nuisance will be minimal”
Subject to weather conditions, the work is expected to last four months. On the program: reinforcement of certain quays, redevelopment of the dikes using riprap, as well as the repair of roads and coatings. The work, led by the Natali companyspecialized in maritime works, were hired by the Community of Corsicaowner of the port facility. Cost of the operation: 1.3 million euros.
“The repair of the dikes and the transport of the blocks will be done entirely by sea, so the port will always be freely accessibledeveloped Thierry Mazel. The nuisance on land will therefore be minimal, apart from a specific organization inside the basin, when the quays are taken over.”
A long-awaited project in this small port of some 160 ringsbuilt in the 19th century, which still bears the scars of extreme weather episodes which had seriously damaged this structure. Like Storm Adrian, one of the most violent the island has experienced, in October 2018.
“This renovation will make the site more secure, which is very positive for boaters who will be able to leave their boats there all year round.considered Anne-Laure Santucci, maire de la commune de Luriwhich manages the fishing port via a public service delegation. Until now, some users were reluctant to do so because the structure was degraded. This work will therefore allow us to create year-round activity, and thus promote the economic attractiveness of the navy.”
A series of works in ports
This project is part of a series of works carried out by the region in the fishing ports of Haute-Corse. Other projects have been undertaken for the dredging of the wearing Beltsas well as comforts in the ports of Erbalonga, from Barcaggio to Ersa, and in the navy from Giottani to Barrettali.
“Other renovations will be undertaken after summer 2025advance Thierry Mazel. The Community has undertaken, for an amount of around 8 million euros over five years, heavy investments to upgrade and modernize eight fishing ports by 2027.”
