Hard blow for FC Nantes since we learned this Wednesday evening that Sergio Conceiçao refused to become the new coach of the Canaries. The trail of the Portuguese coach is definitively closed for the Kita family.
Antoine Kombouaré is in the hot seat at FC Nantes and to succeed him, Waldemar and Franck Kita had one man in mind: Sergio Conceiçao. For several days, the Nantes staff have been working to convince the Portuguese coach, free after seven years at FC Porto. Hope has long been in the Nantes ranks, but it definitely disappeared this Wednesday. West France announces in fact that Sergio Conceiçao has simply declined the offer from FC Nantes and will therefore not return to sit on the bench of La Beaujoire, where he shone in 2016. Since the heavy defeat in Brest this weekend (4- 1), the leaders of FC Nantes remain convinced that change is necessary.
Habib Beye favorite, but not only candidate
Despite Sergio Conceiçao’s refusal, they are still with a view to change and from now on, it is Habib Beye who is the number one lead for Kita father and son. Free since his departure from Red Star last summer, the Canal+ consultant is a very serious option for the Canaries to such an extent that he met Franck Kita this Wednesday. But he is not the only coach on the Nantes board’s shelves because another French coach whose identity has not been filtered is one of the potential successors to Antoine Kombouaré. The Kanak coach will in any case be on the bench on Saturday in Drancy. But unless there is a big surprise, he will no longer be the coach of FC Nantes after the Christmas holidays. It now remains to be seen who will be the conductor of the Canaries on January 4 for the perilous trip to Lille.
