four Ukrainian families win their case at the administrative court

The administrative court of did not respond favorably to the interim order for useful measure, initiated by the Prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques. It hoped to obtain the possibility of evicting the last four families still present in the residence located 8 allée Villarubio, in .

In December 2023, around ten Ukrainian families were welcomed into this vast residence, formerly a vacation center for the Ministry of Finance. Disused, it provided accommodation for around thirty people who fled the war. It had been indicated from the start that this was only temporary.

Over time, several families found permanent housing. Four of them are still there. Each faces particular difficulties. For these reasons, they declined the various proposals made to them. In June, they were granted a deadline until October 15. Since then, they have occupied the premises “without rights or titles”, in the eyes of the prefecture which wanted, through this summary, to push them to accept the proposals made to them.

Emergency fault

“I was asked to defend these families in the face of this appeal,” says Me Francisco Sanchez-Rodriguez, of the bar. “The administrative judge heard our arguments and considered that there is no urgency, since there is no allocation of use before 36 months. Furthermore, the sale of this residence, which was to take place before a notary on December 16, has been postponed. »

The Ministry of Finance must in fact transfer this building to the Local Public Land Establishment of the Basque Country, on behalf of the City of Anglet.

The prefecture has fifteen days to appeal to the Council of State, but emphasizes that the purpose of this summary was not to act hastily and that nothing would have been decided within the month from April 2025, even if in this case, the winter break is not necessary. She assures that new housing proposals must be addressed to these four Ukrainian families.
