In the heart of Petit , it is a real territorial hub of eco-social cooperation which should see the light of day within two years. At the initiative of the Eraiki endowment fund, in partnership with the Col, the Manu Robles-Arangiz Foundation and the Bayonne municipality, the new Patxoki presents itself as an “intergenerational place serving residents”.

Solidarity accommodation

A popular anchor point on four floors, it will house a residents’ cooperative with eight participatory and inclusive social housing units. These spaces, dedicated to responding to “the central challenge of the Northern Basque Country of living and housing in the country without artificializing new land”, will be accessible to people with low incomes (rental-ownership). On the top floor, Patxoki Berria will offer collective and transitional accommodation for groups and solidarity accommodation, particularly promoting exchanges between territories.

Meeting spaces

It will also host a workers’ restaurant and a community café. Offices and a large room with multiple uses will provide a work and meeting space for collectives and structures in the fields of economy, ecology, the fight against exclusion and discrimination for equality gender, solidarity, popular education and access to the law. According to the project leaders, Patxoki Berria will be “a major tool over the coming decades for the pooling, cooperation and change of scale of concrete alternatives in the territory”.

The demolition of the current building will be carried out by the Patxa’ma cooperative, specialized in the reuse of materials from deconstruction. The furnishings will come from reuse and rehabilitation. The overall financing of the inter-association part of the building amounts to nearly 1.5 million euros, “the housing part having to be self-financing”, according to Eraiki representatives. A sum of 200,000 euros is necessary for the deployment of the project. Donations are made via the Eraiki website.
