WEATHER ALERT: DUST AND DROP IN TEMPERATURES AHEAD

The National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) has published a press release warning of particular weather conditions which will affect Senegal in the days to come. A dust episode, accompanied by a significant drop in temperatures, is expected from December 17 to 23, 2024.

According to ANACIM, a significant wave of dust is currently extending over the northern half of the country and is expected to intensify across the entire territory from Thursday, December 19.

The northern and central regions (Saint-Louis, Podor, Matam, Linguère, Louga, Thiès, Dakar, Diourbel and Kaolack) will be the most affected. In these areas, concentrations of particles in the air will greatly reduce visibility.

In the South (Kolda, Ziguinchor, Sédhiou), the effects of dust will be less marked, but could be felt intermittently. This phenomenon will begin to gradually subside from Saturday December 21.

In the North and Center-West, including localities such as Saint-Louis, Podor, Linguère, Louga, Thiès, Diourbel, Kaolack and Dakar, the coolness will be particularly felt, with night temperatures sometimes dropping below 17°C. In the South, although the drop is moderate, the nights will be cooler than usual.

Faced with these conditions, ANACIM recommends that populations, particularly those in the most exposed regions, take precautions, particularly for vulnerable people suffering from respiratory or heart problems. Reduced visibility could also impact travel.

ANACIM specifies that this bulletin will be updated according to changes in weather conditions.
