On April 30, 2025, the new comedy by Fabrice Éboué, Gerald the Conquerorwill enter cinemas. This feature film, partially filmed in Caen and particularly in the context of the Abbey of Menis a humorous love letter to Normandy and its rich historical heritage.
A hilarious and ambitious project
The film follows Gérald, a Norman independence activist passionate about history, who dreams of restoring Normandy to its medieval aura by launching a crazy project: an amusement park entirely dedicated to William the Conqueror. This project attracts the attention of a documentary director willing to do anything to make a career, thus forming an unlikely duo in a comedy full of self-deprecation and offbeat situations.
Caen and the Abbaye aux Hommes at the center of the action
Filming largely showcased the region, with scenes filmed at Caen, Bayeux, Cliff and other emblematic places in Normandy. The Abbaye aux Hommes, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, served as a setting, reinforcing the historical atmosphere while providing a tasty contrast with the film’s modern humor.
A strong Norman anchorage
The choice to film in Normandy does not stop at the settings. Fabrice Éboué boasts a true passion for this region, the birthplace of William the Conqueror and an emblematic place in European history. This film, although parodic, is an ode to its traditions.
A passionate team
Fabrice Éboué, who also wrote the screenplay, has surrounded himself with a promising cast. He himself plays one of the main roles alongside Logan Lefèbvre, Alexandra Roth and Vincent Solignac. The film, produced by Cinéfrance Studiosmarks a new stage in the career of the comedian and director, known for his satirical works such as Barbaque or Coexistence.
