Part of the wine landscape of the Pyrénées-Orientales will soon disappear. Faced with the crisis facing French wine growers, the government proposed a plan for uprooting the vinessubsidized to the tune of 4,000 euros per hectare. Little spared by the drought, many winegrowers in the department have given up on part or all of their farms.
2,614 hectares of vines will be uprooted
The first number is: 2,614 hectares of vines will be uprooted in the Pyrénées-Orientalesannounces the Ministry of Agriculture, in a report published at the beginning of the month. 14% of the Catalan wine estate will therefore disappear from the map. In total, more than 10 million euros will be granted to wine growers in the P.-O.
In detail, we learn that 458 grubbing-up files were submitted by winegrowers in the department. Among them, 124 (i.e. 27%) opted for a total uprooting of their farm. The highest rate in the former Languedoc-Roussillon region, confirms the Regional Directorate of Food, Agriculture and Forestry (Draaf).
