Some 28 new job cuts are expected as part of the reorganization of a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, in Valence (Drôme) and Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). “The company ArcelorMittal Distributions Solutions France has informed its social partners of a project to reorganize the company and adapt its activity,” indicated the management of the steelmaker, confirming information from Liberation.
According to her, “the difficult economic context in the steel markets is weighing on its clients’ sectors of activity, particularly in the field of local distribution for building, mechanical engineering and general industry. This translates into a significant and lasting drop in volumes, of around 19% between 2019 and 2024.” “To face these difficulties, ArcelorMittal Distributions Solutions France plans to reorganize its network of agencies”, with a “redeployment to agencies neighboring the activity of the Valence site, and that of the activity of the Strasbourg which is coming to the end of its lease.”
“Reorganization project”
“In total, the reorganization project could have a potential impact of 28 job cuts on the one hand and 15 job creations on the other hand,” adds the management, which specifies “to continue the information process- consultation of social partners, with a next meeting on Wednesday, December 18.”
At the end of November, ArcelorMittal confirmed the closure next spring of two small factories in Reims (Marne) and Denain (North), which employ a total of 135 people. ArcelorMittal is asking the European Union to protect the competitiveness of European steel, putting in the balance its decarbonization projects on the continent, which involve several billion euros of investments.
