Morocco and Cambodia have expressed their desire to strengthen their cooperation in the areas of trade, investment and tourism, in the mutual interest of the two countries and their populations, reported Wednesday, December 11, the Xinhua agency. This statement was released, according to the same source, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia at the end of the fourth session of bilateral political consultations between the two ministries.

The meeting, held in Phnom Penh, was co-chaired by Chhouk Bunna, Director General of the General Department for European, American and Africa-Middle East Affairs at the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Omar Kadiri, director of Asian and oceanic affairs at the Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs, African cooperation and Moroccans living abroad.

“The two co-presidents stressed the need to breathe new life into trade and investment cooperation and agreed to create a Cambodia-Morocco business forum”indicates the press release. The two officials are also committed to accelerating steps to finalize pending agreements, including a draft agreement on the reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, a draft agreement on the elimination of double taxation, as well as a draft framework for economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, specifies the text.

Mr. Bunna also encouraged an intensification of initiatives intended to promote tourism cooperation between Cambodia and Morocco. “To this end, both parties agreed on the need to sign a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation in the near future,” adds the press release. The two countries reaffirmed their desire to maintain close cooperation by reciprocally supporting their candidates within international organizations. Furthermore, they agreed to work on developing a road map to deepen their bilateral relations. Finally, the two delegations exchanged views on regional and global issues of common interest, the statement concluded.
