“Moulay is proud of its church, one of the most beautiful monuments of its heritage. » It is in these terms that the mayor of Moulay (Mayenne), Frédéric Bordelet, opened the inaugural ceremony of the restoration work on the interior of the church, Friday December 6. There were a lot of people.

The church has been almost abandoned for several years, Florence , a resident of the village, took the initiative in 2019 to revive it by offering to clean it and add flowers. Then, the town hall undertook to carry out some work. “We called on local companies and a master glassmaker,” explains the mayor.

New stained glass windows

This restoration led to numerous renovation works on the stained glass windows. “A large number of them were deposited and went to the respective workshops of Clotilde Gontel, Aurélie Dupin and Angéline Clermont in (Hérault). Some stained glass windows were in too poor condition, they were replaced by stained glass windows which come from a destroyed chapel in Montpellier”he continued. The cost of renovating the stained glass windows amounts to €55,298.

Wilfrid Robert, a mason in Moulay, took over the mullions of the stained glass windows and redid the plaster above the bases. And these bases were redone by the carpenters of Etic 53, a company located in Mayenne.

The overall expenditure is €71,436. “We are subsidized by different organizations, the Department for an amount of €18,205, the Region for €11,933 and the State for €24,273. We still have to pay €17,025”, completes the councilor.
