Morocco, which rose to 8th place in the world on the Climate Change Performance Index (IPCC), is “the first Arab and African country to occupy a privileged place in the Top 10 of this ranking”, which evaluates the country strategies in the areas of energy and climate, writes the Spanish newspaper.

Morocco ranks ahead of nations traditionally considered leaders in decarbonization, such as Germany (16th), Norway (9th) and Sweden (11th) and Spain (19th), notes AS, noting that the Kingdom was rewarded for its efforts to increase the use of renewable energy, with the objective of reaching 52% of the energy mix from renewable sources by 2030.

The publication attributes this performance to Morocco’s launch of several large-scale projects including the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, one of the largest solar projects in the world, with an installed capacity of 580 MW, the Tarfaya wind farm, a capacity of 301 MW, is one of the largest wind farms in Africa, and the Noor Midelt solar project, with a total planned capacity of 1,600 MW.
