The Creuse Sports Trophy rewarded several athletes from the department, including Cédric Belhomme, PE teacher at Parsac college and involved in several clubs. He considers school sport to be essential, for the well-being of students, and to detect high-level athletes.
Cédric Belhomme is a PE teacher during the week, and in his free time, he trains, coaches, and manages several clubs in the department. Alongside the seniors of the Saint-Fiel football team, as well as the young people of the Saint-Laurent table tennis club, he transmits the same values: fair play, solidarity, and conviviality.
PE teacher at Parsac college, he also supervises the establishment's sports association every Wednesday. This is an opportunity for middle school students to play competitive sports. The section is running at full speed, with 90 graduates out of 160 students. Its objective: performance of course, but also to introduce these young athletes to the outside world, and the functioning of a sports association, since they can practice the roles of coach, secretary, treasurer and referee .
It's his turn to receive a medal, for his commitment, from the Department of Creuse. “It’s good to be recognized for the investment that we can put in for a whole week and a whole year”he admits, yet surprised to have been selected by the Department.
“They feel better about themselves”
Since managing the high school sports association, he has noticed the benefits of sport on the students. “They gain autonomy, they flourish, they have confidence in themselvesand as a result they feel better about themselves”, testifies the professor, who describes himself as
“rather severe”, the time to enforce the rules, but “funny” when they are respected.
For him, school sport is essential and is a link in a chain that leads to the high level. “We are the ones who detect the nugget, the clubs train them and the very high level polishes them”he illustrates.
