Cultural tourism attracts 84% ​​of international visitors, says Ammor

Cultural tourism constitutes 69% of the total accommodation capacity in Morocco and attracts 84% ​​of international visitors, the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy indicated on Monday in the House of Representatives, Fatim-Zahra Ammor. “Tourism in the ancient medinas is of great importance today, because it is part of cultural tourism, which has a strong appeal,” underlined Ms. Ammor in a response to an oral question from the group of the National Rally of independent on “the development of tourism in the old medinas”.

Given its crucial importance, the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap has dedicated a specific sector to this type of tourism among the nine thematic sectors, she recalled, noting that it is also concerned by other transversal sectors. namely local crafts and know-how, festivals and moussems, as well as gastronomy and local products. In this sense, Ms. Ammor indicated that several programs have been put in place with the aim of supporting the Moroccan cultural product, in particular the program of rehabilitation and development of eight old medinas, namely Marrakech, Essaouira, Fez, Meknes, Rabat, Salé, Tetouan and Tangier.

This rehabilitation is not limited to infrastructure, but also includes management and animation, aiming to strengthen the attractiveness of these cities to all categories of tourists, whether Moroccan or foreign, she said. . The minister also mentioned the establishment of a program to diversify the tourist and entertainment offer in Ouarzazate, in partnership with local stakeholders, and the acceleration of the development of an authentic tourist product in through a program to transform Ksours into hotels with a strong cultural identity.
