The Gers departmental council will not participate “as an institution” at the next International Agricultural Show (SIA), which will be held at Expo Porte de from February 22 to March 2, 2025. The announcement was made by Philippe Dupouy, president of the community, during the annual session of the Chamber of Agriculture, Friday November 29 at the Château de Mons.

“Faced with a tense economic context marked by financial restrictions from the State, the Gers departmental council, like many other departments, is forced to make difficult budget decisions », Explains the community in a press release.

The Gers will still be present at the Agricultural Show

However, the territory will not be absent from the Agricultural Show. “The producers, ambassadors of the Gers, will be very present to promote the Gers region », insists the departmental council. He assures that “this institutional absence in no way reflects a disengagement from the agricultural sector, at the heart of the Gers identity and economy. »

The community reaffirms his “unfailing” support to its farmers and breeders through several actions:

  • financial support for the Gers producers’ stand;
  • specific aid to breeders who take animals;
  • support for Mirande high school students who will compete for the International Agricultural Education Trophy;
  • promotion of local wine and agricultural sectors in partnership with the Riscle wine and Beaulieu Lavacant agricultural high schools.

Philippe Dupouy defends a choice of reason

“In this time of transformation and challenges, the departmental council remains mobilized alongside Gers farmers. Our absence from the Agricultural Show in 2025 is a choice of reasons, but our support for the women and men who keep Gers agriculture alive remains obvious and a priority,” says Philippe Dupouy.

The Departmental Council will also be present virtually throughout the Agricultural Show through its various communication networks, thus reaffirming its commitment to defending Gers agriculture.
