The appointment of the future president of the National Center for Cinematography and Animated Images (CNC) is entering its home stretch. In the wake of his conviction, on June 28, by the Nanterre criminal court, to three years in prison, including one year for having sexually assaulted his godson in August 2020, the president of the CNC, Dominique Boutonnat, left his position. Reaffirming its « innocence »he decided to appeal this judgment, and the Ministry of Culture entrusted the interim of his position to the current deputy director general, Olivier Henrard.

Tuesday, December 3, the candidates vying for the presidency of the CNC will be auditioned at the Hôtel Matignon by the committee which receives those who apply for the direction of a central administration. These four members – three representatives of the State and a qualified personality, the banker Grégoire Chertok according to The Letter – must decide on the suitability of candidates for this position.
Number two in the CNC since 2019 before assuming the interim presidency, Olivier Henrard is part of this list as is Gaëtan Bruel, current chief of staff to the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati. Also in the running are Florence Philbert, general director of media and cultural industries (also Rue de Valois) as well as Angélique Delorme, deputy deputy general director of the Musée du quai Branly, also president of the CNC art and essay commission.
Four assigned taxes
Two other professionals, who have not confirmed their candidacy, could be auditioned: Caroline Lang, who worked for around thirty years at Warner Bros International Television as well as the film producer Aton Soumache, co-founder and honorary president of Mediawan Kids & Family and president of the CNC's Selective Aid for Animation Techniques Commission. The candidates sent their CV and a brief draft of their strategy. The committee will receive each of them for half an hour.
The choice of the president of the CNC falls to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on the proposal of the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, countersigned by the Prime Minister. Emmanuel Macron may or may not follow their recommendation. No timetable is defined for this type of appointment.

The CNC is financed by four taxes allocated to it, levied on entrance tickets to cinemas, television channels, Internet service providers and streaming platforms. A virtuous model for the financing of French cinema, boosted by the theatrical success of Hollywood films. All of these tax resources this year amount to 780 million euros. This windfall is then redistributed to producers.
