“It really is the future. » Optimism has spread to the ranks of Toopi Organics, located in Loupiac-de-la-Réole (Gironde). Thursday November 21, 2024, the company announced through a press release that it had collected a million liters of urine which subsequently become agricultural biostimulants. “This is a first in and worldwide. This is a great source of satisfaction,” comments René Mesnage, deputy general manager of Toopi Organics.

Toopi Organics collects urine in two ways

The collection began in 2021, it is broken down into two processes. Firstly, many collection points have been formed during events thanks to pop-up stands.

Furthermore, Toopi Organics has joined forces with major motorway operators Vinci, Areas, Autoroutes du Sud de la France (ASF) by signing numerous operating contracts, “These are buildings which receive the public”. The company collects the urine before it goes to wastewater treatment plants.

Very rich in nitrogen or even phosphorus, urine is then fermented to obtain a population of bacteria “which have already proven themselves in agronomic matters”. The process may seem surprising, but it works!

The company's results are scrutinized by the Ministry of Ecology

Proof of this is that the Ministry of Ecology has signed a five-year impact contract with the company in 2022. Every six months, the company reports take into account the impact of their activity at the ministry.

“The first feedback is very convincing, they are very happy with it. » The finished product, “which has nothing to do with urine”, was also tested in Belgium, where the first results are very promising. In particular, we observed a 10% increase in corn yields.

A second production unit has just opened

With the wind in its sails, the company has even just opened a second production unit in Loupiac-de-la-Réole (Gironde).

The objective remains the same: to install small production units in every corner of France in order to help win the fight against global warming but also support farmers in this delicate transition towards more responsible agriculture but above all more profitable for them.

A vast challenge that Toopi Orgnanics seems able to meet.
