They robbed around ten businesses in just two nights last October. Pharmacies, bakeries, a pizzeria, a delicatessen, in Landes and Gironde. Two young men, one just 18 years old, the second 23 years old, were sentenced this Friday, November 29 by the Mont-de-Marsan court. For the oldest, 18 months in prison, nine of which were suspended (the firm part being converted into home detention with an electronic bracelet). The oldest gets two and a half years (30 months) in prison. Among all the victim businesses, only one boss made the trip. A Gironde baker, from the village of Bazas, about thirty kilometers from the Landes.
“I'm the boss, so the bakery is my babyJulien Sauboua told us after the hearing. I took over from my father. Our business, we're there every day, we spend time there, so that's what hurts the most. More than material damage. There, someone broke into our home, shamelessly, to rob us.”
The first time for him that the perpetrators have been found
Especially since this young boss is starting to get used to it. There are four or five of them. “It happens to us once a year, once every two yearsrelate-t-il. In May, it was the other store. They tore away our automatic coin machines. I have the video of my two burglars, in front of my coin machines, right in the middle of my store, and who force it for five minutes with a crowbar. I contacted the person who installed them for me, she told me she had never seen anything like this.”. He adds, not without humor: “This helped them improve the safety of their products.”
But until now, the perpetrators had never been found. “When they called me to tell me this time that we had caught them, I thought it was a joke” recognizes Julien Sauboua. Especially since in October, he himself was inside when the burglary took place: “They flew, they left, it lasted 50 seconds. And in fact we didn't hear anything. I worked behind, ten meters, three walls from those who were breaking my window. That's the most annoying thing. We wonder what we could have done to avoid it. Even though we were right next door.”
“It’s so much easier to rob a bakery”
Since then, he has once again strengthened security: “There, on the other hand, they can get up early to come and rob me.”. The young baker smiles. However, it does not lose its spice and its philosophy. “We love our activity too much. If we stopped at this kind of worry, there would be no point in getting up in the morning. Well, afterward I know that they will always find solutions. It's so much “easier” to rob a bakery than to get up at two in the morning to go make bread The calculation is quickly made.
The bill to repair the damage after the burglary amounts to more than 5,000 euros for the Bazas bakery. All businesses combined, there are more than 10,000 euros. The two culprits are now prohibited from entering into mutual contact, as well as an obligation to care and work.
