It is this Friday, November 29, 2024 that the start of Christmas festivities in Auch (Gers). With to begin with, the illuminationswhich will sparkle as soon as night falls.

Last year, a giant (and shiny) gift awaited passers-by in front of the cathedral. This time it will be different…

The new decor will be composed in particular ofa gingerbread cottage in the shape of an arch, a “bear” armchair surrounded by luminous fir treesan 8 meter high fir tree… And giant letters making up the word “Auch”!

Here are the other emblematic light decorations, with their share of new features, for Christmas 2024:

• The “street crossings” decorated with light garlands in rue du Pouy and rue Dessoles.
• The new decorations on the candelabra of the rue Abel-Gardey, new main track of the Grand-Garros.
• The rising ramp decorated with luminous half-moons in the rue de Lorraine.
• On the Patte-d’Oie roundaboutnew 3D reindeer have appeared around the conical-shaped decor inaugurated last year.
• The redesigned decoration of the fountain, Liberation Squarestarting again from a luminous “Auch”, decorated with multicolored columns…

Nearly 9 km of illuminations

These Christmas decorations will shine until January 5, 2025. Like every year, there are nearly 9 km of illuminations, all equipped with LED material.

From recycled materials

Note that all these decorations are made by City services using recycled materials.

“Similarly, and because the city of Auch is campaigning to develop the reflex of reuse and recyclingthe illuminations installed in the streets – and in particular the new luminous trees installed at Place Porte-Trompette and at the CIRC in front of the nursing school – are garlands acquired from other communities and reworked in our workshops: a policy that allows us to renew regularly and reduced cost Christmas decorations,” assures the City of Auch.

They also shine in the morning for schoolchildren

Finally, it's not only in the evening that you can see the streets shining. If the lights will sparkle from dusk until midnight. They will do the same in the morning from 7 to 8 hours. A good idea to encourage children on the way to school…
