The City is thus rewarded for its efforts and will be able to display 3 legs on its panels. Efforts in favor of animal welfare and protection, such as the creation of a special delegation, led by Carole Faidherbe, deputy mayor and by Ana Pasini, municipal councilor responsible for animal protection.

among the projects carried out, the development of a 1,200 m² canipark equipped with numerous agiltys modules, which is “very popular on a daily basis by dog ​​owners”, insists Florence Portelli.

The City provides “My animal is alone at home” cards, allowing, in the event of an accident, to notify emergency services that an animal is isolated in the person's home. An animal memorial garden has been set up at the Plaine cemetery so that animal owners can pay their respects (scattering ashes).

The City refuses to host circuses with wild animals, which many mayors refrain from doing, including in Val-d'Oise, affirming that this type of refusal is systematically rejected by the prefect or the administrative court.

For three years, the municipality has been organizing an animal welfare day in conjunction with numerous associations.

“At the social level”, the City encouraged the town’s nursing homes (three out of four nursing homes) to authorize independent residents to keep or have a pet.

Facilitate identification work

The City has also set up an agreement with a local association, in partnership with a veterinarian, from 1^is January 2025, for the sterilization of cats and their identification as “free cats”. The municipality says it is studying a solution to limit the development of pigeons in the city via sterilization. “Finally, since 2021, the City has chosen to acquire four microchip readers in order to facilitate the work of identifying animals in the area,” underlines the mayor of Taverny.

Connected to the I-CAD database, on-call elected officials as well as municipal agents can access the national identification file in order to find the owner. “Without minimizing the work carried out by the pound, the objective is for a lost animal to be identified in order to contact the owner as quickly as possible.” Because nothing is more terrible in the event of loss than not knowing what has become of your animal.
