a fire in a Montparnasse restaurant due to a “flaming gas leak”

Part of the restaurant, located in the 14th arrondissement, was damaged by the flames. The fire was brought under control by firefighters around 3:30 p.m. No one was seriously injured.

An impressive fire broke out in the restaurant Les Fauves, located at the corner of rue du Départ and boulevard Edgar Quinet, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, this Thursday, November 28 around 2:30 p.m. One person was treated by emergency services in a relative emergency but no serious injuries were reported.

Although images of the flames ravaging the establishment quickly circulated on social networks, no explosion took place, the firefighters specified.

According to the first elements communicated by the firefighters to BFM Paris Île-de-France, it was a “flaming gas leak” which ravaged part of the restaurant, in particular the terrace and the facade of the premises.

A fire requiring special care

The fire required the intervention of around sixty firefighters and around fifteen vehicles from the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP). The fire was brought under control by firefighters around 3:30 p.m.

The burning gas leak is a special phenomenon, which requires not extinguishing the fire. On certain videos published on social networks, we can see firefighters spraying water around the flames, but not on the flames.

According to the firefighters, this is a classic process: if the flame goes out, it becomes impossible for the firefighters to find the origin of the gas leak. The idea is therefore to find where the leak is coming from to cut off the gas supply, and thus extinguish the origin of the fire.
