The economic, social and environmental council of Mayotte is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. For the occasion, several round tables are organized this Thursday and Friday at the Dembéni technopole. Cesem evaluates the impact of its recommendations on the development of public policies in Mayotte.
Cesem has been making recommendations to communities for twenty years, but are they really followed? Not really and the structure wants to change strategy. “We are thinking together, with all the actors who are stakeholders, about a public policy. We are imagining better collaboration between Cesem, State services, communities and the regional chamber of accounts”says Nicolas Péhau, president of the regional chamber of accounts of Reunion and Mayotte.
However, the latter recognizes that the opinions issued by Cesem are often ignored by communities. “We are in a democratic system. They act according to their free administration… We can publish a notice, but not ensure follow-up.”

The interest of these round tables organized on the occasion of the twenty years of Cesem is to take stock of the past and to collectively plan for the future. “What emerges from our meeting today is how we learn to communicate better together and exchange good practices to ensure follow-up of opinions or recommendations”insists the president of the regional chamber of accounts of Reunion and Mayotte.
