On the large beach of Biarritz a melody floats, a tune that makes you want to hum. That evening, around twenty artists met at the Municipal Casino to record a program dedicated to Daniel Balavoine.
“As the idea is to bring the artist back to his territory. Because we are convinced that there is a very great influence of the territory on artistic creation and on the creative processes, it seemed interesting to us to come and shoot in Biarritz.” Stéphanie Elbaz, producer of the show “A day with…”
Texts that give you the shivers
It was Anna Chedid, the sister of the singer “M” who chose the artists present and directs them. For everyone, Balavoine is a source of inspiration; a performer whose songs marked their childhood. “For me, Daniel Balavoine represents a lot of emotion when I was little, with this magnificent song, “Le Chanteur”, which played all the time on the radio and which gave me chills. It was a song which was exciting and dramatic.” Arthur H, songwriter, performer and musician
More than a singer: a symbol
“Freedom at all levels, artistic and vocal expression and technical freedom, when you master your voice like that. And you still have to work a lot to gain that freedom.” Mathieu Chedid alias -M-Author, singer-songwriter and musician
A technical freedom that is particularly difficult to reproduce. Daniel Balavoine had a large range, and interpreting his songs is a challenge. “It's a challenge. I sing a song called Lucie, which is not the best performing in quotes, because it's not the most difficult song vocally, but I find myself in areas that I don't usually go to, high notes, sustained notes. It's a bit of a high-level sport to sing Balavoine songs.” Jeanne Cherhal, author, composer, performer and musician
A work for eternity
A high-level sport made of covers and sometimes rereading, which show to what extent Balavoine's work remains modern. “The songs are classics, they are what we call cult songs in their first form. And precisely, this type of rereading allows us to rediscover a heritage through another door. And that is the test of the “eternity which allows us to realize this and I believe that Daniel Balavoine passes it with flying colors.” Tété, singer-songwriter
“A day with Balavoine”it can be discovered Friday December 6 at 9:05 p.m. on France 3.
