three golden monkeys from China arrive in France

After panda diplomacy, it’s time for golden monkey diplomacy. Just like the famous panda, The Rhinopithecus of Roxellane is considered a national treasure in China. The arrival of these three primates was negotiated at the highest level.

Rodolphe Delord, director of ZooParc de Beauval, declared: “This is an agreement at the highest state level. I learned about it during a state dinner at the Élysée when the Chinese president was visiting France on May 6.” The monkeys will be installed in a “brand new Chinatown”, located near the giant pandasin a tall, air-conditioned structure, decorated with Chinese decorations.

“They are absolutely magnificent monkeys. They have very long yellow-gold coats adapted to extremely cold temperatures. They have blue faces. They have virtually no noses to be able to withstand the cold temperatures in the Sichuan mountains. We build very large air-conditioned houses because they have difficulty withstanding high temperatures. So if it is very hot in the summer, they will have to return to their very large air-conditioned houses,” added the director.

Arrival expected before spring 2025

Their move, planned before spring 2025, has been organized for several weeks: the stay of French caretakers in Shanghai for several weeks is notably planned, so that the monkeys get used to their future veterinarians. Chinese keepers will also accompany the animals on their trip to France next year.

The ZooParc de Beauval will then become, according to its management the first park in the world, outside of Asia, to welcome golden monkeys. The arrival of three individuals, two females and one male, was recorded.
