When the press seeks the truth. The Élysée denied, this Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the comments made to Emmanuel Macron a few hours earlier in an article published by “Le Parisien”. According to this paper signed Thomas Soulié, recent defector from BFMTV, the head of state would have predicted the coming censorship of Michel Barnier's government: “The government will fall“, he would have predicted on Monday, November 25, on the sidelines of the decoration ceremony for Élisabeth Borne organized at the Élysée.

“Marine Le Pen will censor Michel Barnier’s government sooner than we think”

“She (Marine Le Pen) will censor him at some point and sooner than we think”reported several witnesses to “Parisien-Aujourd’hui en ”, who summarized the thoughts of the President of the Republic in these terms: “According to him, the president of the National Rally deputies could carry out her threat in the coming days, during the votes on the various budgets in the National Assembly.“. The vote on the Social Security financing bill for 2025 must take place the week of December 2, 2024.

These comments, relayed in the press, provoked the wrath of the Élysée: “The Élysée denies that such comments reported here in quotation marks were made“, writes the X account of the Élysée. “The President of the Republic is not a commentator on current affairs. The government is at work and the country needs stability“, tweeted the Château, whose communication surprised many observers of political life.

To my knowledge, this is the first time that the Élysée's X account 'denies' information published in the press“, noted Marie-Pierre Bourgeois, political journalist for the digital editorial staff of BFMTV.

That said, the newspaper, through Marion Mourgue, editor-in-chief of the political service, indicated that it would not change a single comma in the published article. “'Le Parisien – Today in France' maintains its information. They have been cross-checked and confirmed by several sources“, she replied on X at the Élysée.

On BFMTV a few moments later, Marion Mourgue reiterated: “Yesterday Emmanuel Macron decorated Élisabeth Borne, his former Prime Minister. There were several guests including former ministers and relatives. He came to speak with them (and engaged in) a sort of prognosis, an analysis of the situation. And of course, that we confirm even if the Élysée is not delighted that we are releasing this information. In the current context, this also shows that the President is not in full support of his Prime Minister and is even already planning the future.Puremédias invites you to watch the sequence.

The last hitch was last month

Between the press and the Élysée, exchanges of this content are repeated. On October 17, 2024, during a press conference in Brussels (Belgium), Emmanuel Macron let his anger explode, judging that the journalists from the presidential press had distorted his remarks made the day before in the council of ministers on the birth of Israel.

Benyamin Netanyahou “must not forget that his country was created by a decision of the UN“, the head of state is said to have said. Castigating the “ventriloques“, he pointed at the “disintegration of public debate“and the”lack of professionalism of ministers who repeated distorted comments, journalists who repeated them and commentators who did not focus on the reality and truth of such comments“.

The Presidential Press Association responded that Emmanuel Macron put “seriously calls into question the ethics of the press which rigorously investigates and cross-checks its sources“and that”the definition of journalism cannot be a presidential prerogative“.
