On Thursday September 19, 2024, agents from the Montpellier customs brigade surveyed the A9 motorway as usual in search of illicit flows.

During these checks, they spotted a utility vehicle which seemed suspicious to them. They therefore decided to select this flatbed van registered with German plates and remove it from traffic to carry out a thorough inspection.

The driver, the only one on board, of Serbian nationality, said he had arrived from Spain and was going to Germany to deliver his load consisting of 6 windows. Faced with the inconsistency of such a journey for a such an insignificant load, and incoherent comments from the driver, the agents carry out a more in-depth check of the vehicle,” the customs press release said.

The customs officers then noticed, under the platform of the van, a recess added to the vehicle. A discovery which will lead them to discover several bags filled with cocaine bread. This means that more than 120 kilograms of cocaine will be seized.

The driver handed over to the judicial police service, was brought before the court for immediate appearance and was sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment as well as a €120,000 customs fine.
