This Friday, November 22, a young man aged 25 and with a disability was raped in the toilets of a supermarket in Saint-Herblain, in Loire-Atlantique. His mother surprised the scene and put the attacker to flight.
The events took place at the Atlantis shopping center, in Saint-Herblain, near Nantes. The victim is a 25-year-old young man suffering from a mental disorder. According to West Francethis Friday, November 22 around 3 p.m., the “security officers understand that there is a problem, that something is wrong” during their rounds, explains Alexandra Farci, director of the shopping center.
These officers then found a woman, the victim's mother, concerned that her son was not coming back from the toilet. The mother goes to the men's bathroom and finds her son undressed. The security guards then managed to ensure that the suspect “don't escape” before calling the police.
“The victim is incapable of expressing the slightest consent”
Investigators can rely on video surveillance cameras present in the toilet hall. The Nantes public prosecutor, Renaud Gaudeul, specified that the man was accused of rape aggravated by two circumstances: “the vulnerability of the victim and the fact of having acted while drunk and under the influence of narcotics”.
The prosecutor also explains that “the victim is incapable of expressing the slightest consent”. The accused man, a 36-year-old Algerian with no fixed address or papers, was then indicted and imprisoned in a remand center. The latter only recognizes “the materiality of the facts”.
