The International Day Against Violence Against Women, November 25, is an opportunity to recall the means implemented by the Departmental Council to fight against this scourge of society. While the figures for violence against women remain alarming in , the Departmental Council is continuing its actions in Haute-Garonne to try to eradicate violence of all types against women and young girls. On a daily basis, the Department's services, in the Solidarity Houses (MDS), the Adolescent House (MDA), the Concerning Information Collection Unit and the Sexual Health Center, carry out their missions of reception, evaluation and support for victims and their children. In January 2020, the Departmental Council adopted a departmental action plan for the prevention and fight against violence against women, which provides: financial support for associative actors working for women's rights in Haute-Garonne; strengthening the training of professionals in the Department in connection with the reception, guidance and support missions of women victims of violence; better care for child co-victims. In March 2021, the Departmental Council created the Departmental Mother-Child Reception Center, which provides emergency shelter for single mothers with children under 3 years old. This center offers 27 accommodations. Since 2023, the Department has financed the “Bons taxi” system, as part of the actions of the Departmental Observatory of Violence Against Women, which allows emergency transport for women victims of domestic violence in Haute- Garonne, in partnership with the CIDFF association. Between July 2023 and June 2024, more than 130 trips were provided to allow women victims of violence and their children to access the Medical-Judicial Unit, meet a social worker or even file a complaint. Since 2017, the Departmental Council has participated in the deployment in Haute-Garonne of the Serious Danger Teleprotection (TGD) system, at the initiative of the High Court (TGI) of , i.e. the provision of a pre- programmed to contact, in the event of danger, the platform of the Mondial Assurance service provider, accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The Department is a major partner of the Maison des femmes at Toulouse University Hospital, a new unique place of unconditional and multidisciplinary care for women victims of violence and in vulnerable situations, scheduled to open in December 2024.
“In 2023, 94 women lost their lives at the hands of their spouse or ex-spouse. The number of complaints of violence is constantly increasing, and even if they demonstrate freedom of speech, these figures are chilling. Equality between women and men can only be achieved through a relentless fight against all forms of violence. In Haute-Garonne, we have made the fight against violence against women one of our priorities, in particular by creating the Departmental Observatory of Violence Against Women, which we co-manage with state services. declares Sébastien Vincini, president of the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council.
