Living Memories evokes the Commune

The conference proposed by Mémoires vivants, late Sunday afternoon at the town hall, attracted a large audience.

Engineer Marie-Laure Las Vergnas, member of the Avallon Study Society, captivated her audience by retracing the sad fate of Jeanne Nicolet. In the 19th century e century, this seamstress was forced to abandon her little boy, due to lack of means to support him decently.

This poor woman lived during the troubled times of the Commune, and saw her husband imprisoned following these events. The harshness of this time was reflected in the writings, a remarkable thing for the time and her social environment, which this woman was able to leave behind.

A captivating, lively, detailed story that shocked the audience. A descendant of the family was present in the room, adding to the emotion of the public.
