It is a snow-covered synthetic Football pitch that the municipality of Pierrelaye (Val-d'Oise) inaugurated on Saturday November 23, at the sports park.

“Work was initially planned to restore the electricity. We took the opportunity to redo the synthetic turf field. It was awaited by its current users but also future ones such as middle school students and schoolchildren,” explains Michel Vallade, mayor (Pcf) of Pierrelaye.

The Pierrelaye Football Club has seen an increase in the number of its licensees, reaching around 350 for the year 2024.

Started in April, the work took a few months. “The positive side of this field is that players can play there whatever the weather. Except for exceptions. When the snow comes, we no longer see the markings,” he laughs.

Ecological and economic advantage

“Beyond the renovation and playing comfort that the synthetic pitch can provide, there is also an environmental approach,” insists the elected official.

This synthetic turf football field, approved by the sports federations – which will allow competitions and inter-club meetings to be held – is made up of cork infill and woven turf, not watered, instead of a grassy area.

“The use of these natural materials allows clean water to be returned to the groundwater. A tank with a capacity of 40 m3, or 40,000 liters, was positioned under the ground.

Remotely connected LED bulbs

Lighting is done with LED bulbs connected and controlled remotely, reducing energy consumption. “This lighting mode allows for a much greater range of play, particularly during winter evenings,” insists Michel Vallade.

“Who says synthetic pitch, says lack of seasonality for the lawn. You will be able to play in all weathers and I think users will appreciate this positive point.”

The lawn mower has also become useless. “Costs will decrease because we will no longer pay for gasoline for the mowers and municipal staff will intervene less often for maintenance. Among other advantages, it also allows multiple and permanent tracing, high quality of play with greater resistance to wear.

Football changing rooms renovated in 2020

The municipal stadium was renovated in 2020. The work began with the renovation of the football locker rooms which were subject to renovation work as part of PMR compliance.

Today, the stadium offers two premises for players and provides three pitches, two of which are approved for competitions. “It’s magnificent,” rejoices a parent. “Our objective is to meet the needs and expectations of the population,” insists Michel Vallade.

The repair of the tennis courts is also planned

Other work has taken place or will take place in other sports venues such as the repair of the roof of the indoor tennis courts which precedes the reconstruction of the courts.

“Our town is growing and experiencing a rejuvenation of its population. We are also seeing a significant number of young people living in the priority neighborhood defined in the Urban Policy system. This demonstrates a strong aspiration to practice sport, whatever the sport chosen. The Sports Park is the largest public sports facility in the city. This is a remarkable site due to the environmental quality of the site and its 10 hectares. The stadium is a structuring facility for Pierrelaye,” concluded the mayor of Pierrelaye.
