Will the weather for the week which began this Monday, November 25, 2024 be as turbulent as that of last week, marked by wind and snow? Certainly not. But, if the very last days of November should be relatively calm, France will experience some disturbed periods between now and then.
A further deterioration from Tuesday evening
A first disturbance swept across France from west to east this Monday. Then, if it will be generally mild, Tuesday should see the beginnings of a new disturbance affecting the Great West at the end of the day.
“In Brittany the lull is short, new oceanic rains arrive in Finistère in the afternoon, then sink into the north-west of the country the following night. The southwest wind, moderate during the day, blows quite strongly at night. thus warns Météo France, in its latest forecast bulletin. The Pays de la Loire and Normandy will also be affected by this deterioration. Elsewhere, the weather will be calmer and sometimes sunny, especially in the morning.
Rain and wind over the northern half Wednesday
This disturbance will continue to sweep the northern half of the country during the day on Wednesday. It will cause gusts of wind which, according to Météo France, will be “fairly strong”. However, they will remain less virulent than that which was recorded last week in the West, during the passage of the Caetano storm.
The passage of this disturbance will also be responsible for notable rainfall accumulations, although far from exceptional. As shown in the map below, which aggregates data from around ten forecast models, the largest accumulations are expected in Vendée and in the Nantes region, as well as in the north of the country.
Return of the anticyclone from Thursday evening
This disturbance should continue to influence the weather in the north of the country during the day on Thursday, where an alternation of showers and clearings is expected. This influence will be especially felt in the morning.
Then “the anticyclone will reconstitute itself with calm and very mild weather in the West and the South”announces Météo Cities. The reinstallation of an anticyclone over France is particularly clear in the animation below, which presents the pressure levels expected in Europe between Wednesday morning and next Monday. The high pressures characteristic of an anticyclone are shown in yellow or orange.
This anticyclonic weather will not necessarily be synonymous with bright sunshine, however, note The Weather Channel. “The sun is not guaranteed, especially in the north, where the clouds are still expected to be abundant”notes the specialized channel. But “It will generally be quite nice elsewhere, particularly from southern Aquitaine to the Mediterranean.” Furthermore, after having risen spectacularly above seasonal norms at the start of the week, temperatures should cool from Thursday evening, auguring a weekend which promises to be calm but cool.
