In a press release, published on Friday November 22, the Landes Department, through its president Xavier Fortinon, indicates “the principle of 100% coverage of the costs of purchasing the third vaccine dose against avian influenza. This funding from the Landes community will be effective “subject to validation by the Ministry of Agriculture of the application of this third dose and in the event of no coverage of costs by the State”.
Only under-label and traditional productions
This measure will mainly concern “label and traditional farm productions”. It comes as two (vaccinated) duck farms, in Saint-Étienne-d'Orthe, in the south of Landes, have been affected by avian influenza in recent days. These new cases have led to the establishment of regulated zones, including the confinement of poultry within a 3 km radius around the outbreaks.
The second vaccination campaign against avian flu began on October 1 throughout France. According to figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, around 4 million ducks had been vaccinated against HPAI by November 1, 2024.
3rd dose for mulard ducks
Last year, the health authorities revised the vaccination protocol by introducing a third dose in at-risk farms and in mulard duck farms, which are used to produce foie gras. The Landes were particularly concerned with the Plan Adour.
