“France is not isolated”, assures Sophie Primas, Minister responsible for Foreign Trade

Farmers have started a new protest movement against the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia). They denounce unfair competition. The text, denounced by the French political class, will be discussed in the National Assembly. “It is very important to have this vote in the National Assembly and the Senate to reiterate the unity of the nation and to be supported by the entire Parliament. It is additional strength to negotiate with the European Union”, believes Sophie Primas, Minister responsible for Foreign Trade and French people abroad.

The text is favored by many EU member states but others, such as France, reject the agreement. “France is not isolated on this agreement. It is the most vocal. Some states have the same reluctance as us. Everyone has their strategy. We cannot sign this agreement as it stands”adds the minister.
