In Orne, this English couple reopens the only bar-restaurant in a famous village

For its famous illuminationsBeauchêne, commune of Tinchebray-Bocage (Orne)is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors. This year, they will be able to find a place to enjoy a hot drink… At the bottom of the hill, the bar-restaurant Le Grail is preparing to reopen its doors after several months of closure.

To bring the place back to life, John and Maria Harman, residents of the town aged 64 and 60, have been working on the work since October. “As soon as it is possible, we will open,” testifies the couple who are banking on very early December 2024.

Asked by residents, they took up the challenge

The place is already well known to John and Maria. “It has often happened to us to give a helping hand to former managers of the business. » A few years later, when the business had found buyers, it closed. The village finds itself without its only bar-restaurant.

Immediately, residents turned to us to reopen the place. They know that we have already worked in the field.

John has extensive experience in a bar-restaurant in England, added to several seasonal reinforcements in the Alps. “After all that, we came back to Beauchêne to rest, and then we quickly got bored, so we decided to take up the challenge », says Maria.

A multi-services in the heart of the village

The couple with the distinct accent launches into a transformation from the bar-restaurant. “We had to redo a lot of things to bring the space up to date. ” Besides, the construction siteis not yet finished.

When we open, we will only have a bar and small restaurant, but then we will also open the restaurant area and a small grocery store.

As soon as they can, the couple will also embark on pizza making available for takeaway. “We would like our business to become the heart of the village, because there are a lot of passages. »

In this regard, John and Maria are banking on the unmissable event in Beauchêne: “the illuminations here, it's crazy. It's important that people can find a warm place to come in. » A new service which will undoubtedly reinforce the success of the spectacleof light.

The opening date will soon be announced on the Facebook page of the bar-restaurant Le Graal.
